11.35 - We're now
standing in the most built up section of Chiltington Lane - which comprises a
cluster of 3 houses:- Kemps House, Burrells and Upper Burrells. Two of these are
listed. The view shown immediately below is from standing in the lane looking
along the side of Kemps House at the South Downs. And this is where Network
Rail have their own reserved access so they can get their tonka toys and
railway stuff to the other side of the tracks from a highway. There's no other
access for heavy vehicles. |

My neighbours might well ask at
this stage - how is it possible to take such unflattering pictures of this
pretty spot? Where are the flowers? Other readers might ask - what are those
signs?
As relates to pretty photos. These are the record of the photos
I took on that day. It was September (not the best time to see flowers here)
and the gloominess is because it was about to rain. (Do you remember the
invitation email at the start of this?)
As to the signs? These new
protest signs -
say
no to caviar farm - had been freshly planted all along this lane and
others in East Chiltington (in correct legal locations) despite their
predecessors
having
been all removed the week before by East Sussex Highways. The story had a
happy ending for the rural character of the area.
In the picture below
- you can see where I was standing when taking the above pictures - looking
down the slope from a little way further up. This was taken 2 weeks earlier on
August 29, 2016. What a difference a bit of sunshine makes. |
